How Truth Works
Knowledge means little without the right relationships, and relationships have little value without real knowledge and trust behind them. Success comes from working with good people, dependable companies, and relationships built to endure.
When knowledge, character, and opportunity align, true profit can emerge — and often, that is where passion begins.
After nearly fifty years in business, I have learned that work is best when it feels less like an obligation and more like a passion. That is why I wanted my office to reflect a more relaxed and thoughtful environment. Working from home gives me the energy and perspective to help bring extraordinary projects to life — projects that, when properly developed, are as carefully composed as fine art.
Where Experience Counts
With a background in banking, real estate finance, title, escrow, legal coordination, and development, my work gradually became more than a profession. Over time, it became something I genuinely cared about — because behind every transaction there is usually a family, a builder, an owner, a risk, a dream, or a problem that needs to be solved correctly.
I met my wife while acquiring one of my own investment properties. At the time, she was managing a major escrow company and the funding of high-end real estate transactions. That experience confirmed something I had already learned firsthand: in any serious real estate transaction, the right legal, financial, and transactional professionals can make all the difference.
A complex property acquisition can look overwhelming on the surface. There are documents, approvals, personalities, timing issues, lenders, attorneys, title concerns, and financial decisions that all have to come together. But with experienced people at the helm, the complicated can become understandable — and the overwhelming can become manageable.
Soon after we were married, we started a boutique commercial real estate lending business serving builders, developers, property owners, and the broader development community. Through a trusted working relationship with one of the nation’s respected federal savings banks, our business grew quickly and steadily.
Over time, we provided financing across multiple states, dozens of cities, and nearly every discipline of the real estate transaction — from land acquisition and custom homes to apartment development, commercial property, and private client lending.
When Attention to Detail Matters
Builders, architects, planners, and owners demand excellence — especially when a project is personal, complex, and financially significant.
Our company provided funding for projects like the one shown below. This example reflects the type of unique client proposal our work often involved. These projects required more than capital. They required judgment, discretion, timing, structure, and a clear understanding of how every investment dollar would be used.
In the world of extraordinary designers, architects, builders, and private owners, attention to detail is not optional. It is expected. The same is true in finance. A beautiful project can only succeed when the capital behind it is properly structured, carefully managed, and aligned with the owner’s goals.
The Ranch Companies became recognized as a significant lender to the private client community, particularly for owners who valued confidentiality, professionalism, and careful execution.
Many owners of special properties prefer discretion and non-disclosure. We understood that. In fact, it became one of our specialties: helping capable clients move important projects forward quietly, professionally, and with the level of attention their investments deserved.
“By Referral Only”
Much of our business came by referral. That was not an accident. It was the result of relationships built one transaction at a time, with people who expected competence, honesty, and follow-through.
Because of that experience, our teams have continued to be asked to examine commercial and real estate investment opportunities for select clients seeking well-structured, carefully considered projects.
Over the years, our work has brought both success and perspective, shaped by more than one thousand extraordinary relationships across the country. We are proud of those relationships, and of the trust placed in us by clients, builders, owners, designers, engineers, and financial professionals.
The project consideration shown below is one example of that work — a complex opportunity requiring the coordination of highly skilled artisans, engineers, advisors, and financial professionals to bring vision, structure, and execution together.

Cardiovascular Surgery, a Success Story.
A few monts later
It’s the middle of April 2022 and I am in great shape. Wow…the last two years have been a doozie…but I am B A C K..
LIFE – 4 1/2 Years After
It is November of 2025. Four years ago & a little more, the Cardiothoracic Surgeon began his art as if “God” was personally speaking through him. To be quite honest, he did have a somewhat hallowed voice.
His words were reassuring but at the same time, in a matter of fact way, all Cattle and NO HAT. The gentleman was sure of the needed procedure and sure of his ability to perform to the absolute available. Mind you, I did not know this man from Madam’s house Cat. However, I was, in the days to come, to learn he was the best of the best. Humble, forceful, assertive, and gifted. I owe him, and the Lord Jesus, my life.
After 10 hours on the cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) machine or simply the heart-lung machine, I wish I could list the legions of Angels, ( I mean Nurses ) that carried out the tasks of the demands of my recovery. I cannot remember all their names but I can see their faces in my minds eye and each one of them are beyond my ability to express my thanks too. So, my only token of thanks to them will be to live healthily and well. I do not want any of them to feel anything but appreciated.
Today, November of 2025, I am grateful to God for giving me a chance to give back to those I might come across that I can do some small thing to make their lives better.
The Best Mom and Dad…
March 25th, 1950
Chuck and Ila Ulrich
This is the story of my Dad and Mom’s first days togther. My Mom gave me this short story of how their lives together began…
In 1950, Chuck & I were married in my folks home on 139th street (near Compton.) Ralph (His friend and LaVonne (my friend) along with Aunt June & Uncle Jim and (Buz was chosen as Chuck’s best man). Mom and Dad and Mr. & Mrs. Ulrich were present. The Pastor was a man chosen from a nearby church-Chuck and I didn’t know him. We had rented a studio apartment a few blocks away.

These men and women do not often think of themselves as different than the rest of us. Sure, they have incredible educations and aptitude in their chose fields in most cases, but I can tell you from personal experience, a few of these people are, without question, Angels from God. There is no way, in my learned opinion, that what they do is nothing less than devine intervention. I have been there, done that…
Awake?
Yikes! What the (blank) just happened to me? Last I remember a half dozen Doctors were rolling me into this huge room full of lights. Not many random things to be seen and then woosh…here I am.

I was just hurting at home…my back hurt, my head hurt, I lost a ton of weight and wasn’t eating. So, when my wife suggested we go to the emergency room I reluctantly agreed, but lets go in the morning. I am sure I can get one nights rest in…that was a rough night!

When I was a young boy, all I really understood was when it was time to go to school, my Dad was already at work. I learned he was a Carpenter. He worked with Wood. One of my friends, well his Dad, was a Diesel Mechanic, whatever that was. He worked on Oil Rigs. He was always dirty with grease and stuff. My Dad always came home exhausted and had sawdust in his hair. I learned at Church, that God was a Carpenter, but I never saw anything he built. God was and is a builder of men and all his creations. No wonder he rested on the Seventh Day.
I thought, that is probably why he doesn’t have any sawdust in his hair…
My Mother made sure we went to Church every Sunday. We went to Christ Lutheran Church. I remember our Pastors name was Pastor Lund. I began my interest in what God thought about life and what I could do to help my Dad not have to come home exhausted everyday.
So, I began my quest to become a builder. The builders were never dirty, my Dad worked for a lot of them. When it rained my Dad was out of work, but the Builder seemed to work all year long. In my thirst for knowledge, I was about to learn why…
So began a life long journey
Fun Talented Musicians.
When I am feeling comfortable in solitary. It might be a night after I’ve spent with a stressful day before. Whatever my mood is, I can always count on some music genius to make me smile and be thankful for the world I live in. Not just genius everyone knows but…
- Since “the music I enjoy” is the Title of this post, and extraordinary music is one of my personal interests, I included two of my favorite young artists. Marcin Patrzalek is simply a Prodigy from Poland. Self taught genius. I hope you enjoy his music.
